The city under the city

Traces of the past in Catania have been erased by the overlays that over time have transformed the ancient town into an eighteenth-century city.

But underneath, the ruins of the earthquake of 1693, there are buildings of the past, witnesses of the Greek and Roman settlement: a Greek Roman theatre kept inside an eighteenth-century building that, with the remains of an Amphitheatre among the largest in the Roman world, described the power of Catania in the history of Rome.
